What is counseling?
- Counseling is a collaborative process between counselor and client. The counseling relationship is an important one and includes:
- a caring, respectful and non-judgmental environment
- a caring, respectful and non-judgmental environment
- mutually agreed upon goals for counseling
- mutually agreed upon goals for counseling
- answers to your questions about the counseling process
How do I make an appointment?
- Email Dr. Janet Camp (jcamp@rossvet.edu.kn) with the days/times you are available to meet. For urgent needs, call ext. 1500 or come by the counseling office (room 12-17).
What if I need to be seen quickly?
- For urgent needs or if you are in distress, we will offer you an appointment on the same day. If you are unable to come to the appointment at the time offered, we will offer you the soonest available appointment that will fit with your schedule.
How much does it cost?
- Counseling services are free to RUSVM students.
Is counseling confidential?
- In accordance with ethical standards and U.S. federal and state laws, Counseling Center staff take every reasonable precaution to protect your privacy. The identity of individuals using our services, along with the personally identifiable disclosures made in counseling, are held in confidence. Confidential information is not shared with anyone outside the Counseling Center without your written consent unless there is a clear and imminent danger to you or to others, or a special court order. There is no information about your counseling kept with your academic or health records at RUSVM.
What will happen in the first session?
- The first session typically lasts about 50 minutes. You will be asked to complete some brief paperwork about yourself and your concerns. Your questions will be answered about the counseling process and, particularly, about confidentiality. We will spend most of the time discussing your concerns and gathering a brief history from you. Toward the end of the appointment recommendations will be made and follow-up sessions will be planned if necessary and if you agree to them.
