Living Arrangements

From the moment you arrive and throughout your seven semesters, the Department of Housing at Ross is committed to making your stay in St. Kitts as comfortable as possible with a wide range of housing opportunities, support for families and more.

Questions?
We realize preparing for veterinary school in St. Kitts is bound to raise all sorts of questions about the university or island life. In addition to reading the information below, please contact the Department of Housing at Ross with any questions at skcampuslivingdept@rossvet.edu.kn or call 869-465-4161, ext. 302.

Arriving
Every Ross student is welcomed at the airport by Ross University officials and student leaders. They will accompany you and other students to your accommodations and be your guide and resource through orientation week before classes begin. A schedule of the week will be sent to you a few weeks before you arrive.

Housing
To assist students in their transition to Ross University and life on the island of St. Kitts, all new students are housed  through their first semester in the new Campus Living Residences on the east side of the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine campus on the Caribbean Sea. Most of the units are single efficiency units but several double occupancy units are available as well. Rooms include efficiency kitchens (refrigerator, sink, stove top, microwave, toaster oven and coffee maker) and a bathroom (shower, sink and toilet). Common areas include air-conditioned study lounges, TV lounges and laundry facilities. In addition, each student room includes:

  • Air-conditioner
  • High speed Internet connection
  • Two Line phone including Long Distance (VoIP-free calls to North America) and on-campus dialing.
  • Cable TV Hook-Up.
  • Wireless Network accessible in common areas.
  • 110 volts of electricity.

If a student does not use all of their allotted electricity, no refunds are given.

** Students are not able to apply to live in efficiency units with another person unless that person is a dependent under the age of 12.

Bring your family
Students with families are welcome at Ross School of Veterinary Medicine. Although invited to live on campus as well, unlike other students, new students with families may opt to live off-campus. Ross University Preparatory School is a traditional, independent day school for students in pre-k through 8th grades. The Preparatory School has incorporated an independent school curriculum, comparable to the best set of courses found in rigorous, quality private schools in the U.S. The school prides itself on that curriculum, its small classes, and on the quality of its faculty.

St. Kitts' laws will probably limit your companion's employment to a few specialized, on-campus jobs at our Preparatory school, health clinic, or learning center.

Student Health
The Student Health Insurance plan covers Ross University veterinary medical students worldwide, including St. Kitts and the U.S., including emergency evacuation, due to serious illness or injury. All Ross University students are required to enroll in this plan or to provide proof of comparable insurance coverage.

The company that provides health insurance to students is The Chickering Group, an Aetna Company.

The health clinic provides urgent and primary care, as well as over-the-counter and prescription medications.

Drug Policy
Ross University maintains a drug-free campus and workplace. This is consistent with the requirements of the Higher Education Act.

Campus Security
Ross University takes campus safety and security very seriously. In accordance with U.S. Department of Education requirements, information about security and safety practices, as well as campus crime statistics, are published annually. This information is distributed to current students and may be obtained, upon request, by any prospective student. Ross University is firmly committed to maintaining a safe learning environment. Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine offers an enclosed campus that is well lit, and patrolled by our campus security team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Security Department is comprised of officers with extensive police backgrounds.

The Security Department:

  • Provides 24 hours a day, 7 days a week off-campus patrol to areas where students reside.
  • Emails students safety and vehicle bulletins.
  • Offers hurricane and other weather-related advisories.
  • Communicates crisis/emergency procedures.
  • Provides road-side assistance.

Pets
Pets are not allowed in the Campus Living Residences and Ross University requires new students to make their first home in on-campus housing.
