About Research at Ross - School of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Tammi Krecek Did you know that St Kitts serves as an important nesting ground for the critically endangered hawksbill and leatherback sea turtles and endangered green sea turtles? Nesting activity runs year round on the island with leatherbacks arriving from March through July and greens and hawksbills arriving from July through September and October, respectively. This island is also one of few islands in the Caribbean where the African green monkey, Chlorocebus sabaeus, is endemic after 300 years since its introduction from Africa. Are pork tapeworm and hydatid tapeworm which are endemic zoonotic parasites throughout the developing world present in the Caribbean? Their status is undefined in the Caribbean. These are just a few of the current research opportunities at RUSVM.

Research at RUSVM commenced during 2005 and continues to expand and promote creative research opportunities and the development of a robust research program. This includes facilitating student appreciation for the role of research in veterinary medicine and the breadth of career opportunities in the profession.
