IT Information
The Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) campus provides a myriad of Information Technology (IT) resources to facilitate and enhance teaching and learning. The audio/visual, wireless network, supporting fiber network, and custom applications have been selected and integrated to provide:
- Faculty with the ability to deliver creative teaching.
- Students with the ability to access relevant learning material quickly on- and off-campus.
IT resources are monitored and maintained by the IT Department. The IT Department recognizes the importance of the personal devices used by students to connect to and use our resources. We view providing support for these instruments as fulfilling one of our key mandates: “Helping our students achieve their goals to become veterinarians." This support structure comes in the form of set recommendations and services to students.
Recommendations for Protecting Your Computer/Laptop
- Invest in an antivirus program.
- Invest in a SMART Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS). SMART UPS protect against power surges and low voltages that are harmful to computers/ laptops and other electronic devices.
Services Available to Students
- Network login and email account creation and troubleshooting – a network account is required to access learning material, email, printing and all the other protected RUSVM IT resources.
- Registration of personal laptops for campus wireless access to learning material.
- Installation of antivirus program for a specified fee.
- Diagnosing and remedying (if possible) software issues with personal computers/laptops.
- Issues using or accessing any of the applications used on campus (myRoss, eCollege, walrus, etc.).
- Basic diagnosing and remedying (if possible) of hardware issues with personal computers/laptops using the following guidelines:
- Troubleshooting to determine the issue and its cause. A recommended course of action will be given to the owner of the device.
- For devices STILL UNDER WARRANTY, our assistance ends at the troubleshooting step; however, depending on the model, we will direct the student to the authorized service provider in St. Kitts.
- For devices with a WARRANTY THAT HAS EXPIRED, our assistance may continue on to a remedy, but this depends on:
- The nature and complexity of the remedy – for complex issues we may refer students to one of the computer repair shops in St. Kitts.
- How quickly a fix is required – repair services are one of the many duties performed by the IT department. As such, there will be instances when students will be asked to work with one of the computer repair shops in St. Kitts if the matter is urgent.
- The age of the device – if the issue is a function of the device's age, we may ask the student to consider investing in a new device.
