Case Consultation

The RUCP welcomes referral cases from the private veterinarians of St. Kitts and Nevis. Either the veterinarian or client may call to schedule an appointment. The referring veterinarian should provide a referral summary. Veterinarian will be contacted by telephone (within 24 hours) and by written follow-up summary (within 1 week of discharge) if desired. Veterinarians are encouraged to call and discuss referred cases.

The Community Practice is not a specialty referral practice. However, a client may request a Community Practice Clinician to consult with a specialist regarding the care of their pet. Directly approaching another clinician or faculty member for a consultation is counterproductive and is discouraged, as relayed information is never totally accurate, as this action is unprofessional in nature, and additionally as this action places the faculty member who has been approached in a very difficult position. Again, if you are a client, please work with your Community Practice Clinician in regards to requesting additional consultation or services for your pet. This practice will ensure the best overall care of all patients by utilizing a team approach and will provide the best short-term as well as long-term and ongoing care for your pet. This approach also follows standard referral methods as well as professional codes of conduct.
