Animal Answers
The world's first veterinary school was founded in 1761 in France. The year 2011 marks the 250th anniversary of veterinary medicine and the veterinary medicine. In commemoration of World Veterinary Year and to continue our mission of improving the well-being of animals and people through community service, teaching and research, RUSVM launched Animal Answers. Animal Answers is a radio program aired on the second Wednesday of each month at 9:15 a.m. AST on St. Kitts radio, WINNFM 98.9 FM. The program was created to provide residents of St. Kitts and Nevis useful information about animals, their health and the importance of animals to society. Listeners are encouraged to call in with questions during the show.

Large animal discussion continued with a focus on pathology and encouraging large animal farmers to bring animals for necropsy at the University. Partnership with Department of Agriculture and RUSVM.

Small animal discussion with focus on the basic care, including appropriate shelter and how heat and sunlight affect the small animal. Discussed symptoms of heat stroke and ways to reduce the affects of heat stroke. Discussed appropriate bedding and proper food.

Definition of a large animal and discussion about basic care, diseases and how to keep the animals healthy. Importance of cleanliness and daily observation of livestock.

Basic care and diseases seen in small animals in St. Kitts. Health care benefits and information on when to spay female cat after delivering kittens and importance of neutering male cats to help them from straying.

Discussion on general health care tips about small animals. The discussion featured information about the importance of de-worming your pet. Malinda Larkin, writer with the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association also joined the show.
