Nine RUSVM Employees Honored for Receiving DeVry Degrees
On June 14, nine Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) employees were honored for graduating from DeVry’s Keller Graduate School of Managementat a first-of-its-kind ceremony held at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel and Casino.
The graduates pursued their education through a special DeVry program, which enables all Ross employees and their family members the opportunity to attended DeVry University’s classes free of charge.
There are currently 53 employees and family members enrolled in the program, which began in 2006. Those enrolled have collectively received around $5 million (Eastern Caribbean) in free education, according to Hazarie Ramoutar, campus administrator of RUSVM.
“This program is definitely beneficial,” he said. “It increases the morale of the staff because they feel that they can improve themselves. And education is such a big thing, especially in St. Kitts where it’s pretty expensive and there aren’t a lot of programs that allow people to work and study by taking advantage of online resources.”
He continued, “Just having the opportunity to take part in this program is a great benefit for Ross staff members. Not many organizations do that in St. Kitts. I think this is going to have a lot of long-term benefits for the economy as a whole. It also speaks to DeVry’s commitment to focus on staff members and develop them, so I’m very happy for that.”
During the ceremony, Sam Condor, the deputy prime minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, thanked RUSVM for its contribution to nation building and its continued, multifaceted support of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Those honored at the ceremony for receiving Masters Degrees were: Charles Pemberton – Masters of Project Management; P. Cyndie Demming - Human Resource Management; Julienne Rawlins - Accounting and Financial Management; Floyd Revan - Human Resource Management; Alison Stewart - Business Administration; and Collin Williams - Information Systems.
Those honored for receiving Bachelors Degrees were: Cheryl Cumberbatch - Bachelors of Science in Information Technology; P. Cyndie Demming - Bachelors of Science Technical Management; Avonelle Fahie - Bachelor of Science in Technical Management; and Iona Halliday-Simmonds - Bachelors of Business Administration.
“This was the first time we had a ceremony to honor the students but we’re hoping that by next year, with so many people now enrolled, we will have another one. The intention is to have it annually,” Mr. Ramoutar explained.
