May 7, 2008 – (Edison, N.J.) – Ross University School of Medicine is pleased to announce it has added a new fifth semester program, third-year core clinical rotations and fourth-year electives as part of its growing relationship with Synergy Medical Education Alliance in Saginaw, Michigan. The rotations will be available at St. Mary’s of Michigan and Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw.

In May 2008, Ross will start 21 fifth semester students in Advanced Introduction to Clinical Medicine (AICM) and in September 2008 add 24 third-year core rotations in addition to 80 weeks of electives per month. Ross also plans to expand the number of AICM spots to 50 in the near future.

Synergy Medical also functions as the regional campus for Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, giving Ross students the unique opportunity to spend their entire third and fourth years in one location. In addition, Synergy Medical has its own residencies in internal medicine, general surgery, OB/GYN, family medicine, and emergency medicine, enabling Ross students to more easily move into those areas if they choose.

“Synergy Medical provides a truly unique opportunity for our students to learn and grow in a single location, developing the relationships and clinical expertise that will make them into first-class doctors. We are very excited to expand our partnership with Synergy Medical and deepen our roots in the community,” said Dr. Joseph Chu, dean of clinical sciences at Ross University.

“We are very excited about our new relationship with Ross University,” said Nhu Dargis, medical education manager of Synergy Medical. “Synergy Medical is dedicated to providing excellence in medical education and we look forward to this growing partnership assisting students in becoming top-notch physicians.”

The spots at Synergy Medical are the latest in a series of new clinical rotation positions Ross University has announced in the Midwest in recent weeks, which also include Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit and Saint Anthony Hospital in Chicago. In addition, Ross has announced new rotations in: New York City, at Bronx Lebanon Hospital and Caritas Health Care Planning’s Mary Immaculate and St. John’s Queens hospitals; Baltimore at Harbor Hospital Center; and Columbus, Ohio, at Grant Medical Center. In 2007, Ross had more than 1,300 students complete over 60,000 clinical weeks.
