FRIGATE BAY, St. Kitts— As part of a larger program, Coalition of Support for St. Kitts-Nevis Security Initiatives (CSSKNSI), two members, Christophe Harbour and Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM), were the primary donors of a police vehicle to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force during a Key Transfer Ceremony held at the Frigate Bay Police Outpost today. The two business entities jointly contributed 75% with the additional 25% funded from the Police Force for a new police patrol vehicle for the Frigate Bay area. The CSSKNS was formed to promote unity through one voice representing several organizations on the island.
“The vehicle provided today is rugged, built to last and will assist the police force in watching the streets,” said Mr. LeGrand Elebash, chief operating officer for Christophe Harbour. “Our Coalition believes in partnership and working together and we ask nothing in return, except that the vehicle be used to keep St. Kitts safe. We contribute to this initiative with pride and belief in progress to which the vehicle will only be a small part.”
Police Commissioner C.G. Walwyn was presented the keys to the new patrol vehicle—a 2011 Toyota Fortuner—during today’s Key Transfer Ceremony by Mr. LeGrand Elebash, chief operating officer for Christophe Harbour and Mr. Bill Hughson, president of the Healthcare Group for DeVry Inc.—DeVry Inc. is the parent company of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Commissioner Walwyn turned the ignition of the SUV for its first official start as a police vehicle during the ceremony. The vehicle is expected to be put into official patrol rotation, in approximately two weeks, once it has been equipped with the police decals, emergency siren and lighting system typical of a patrol vehicle.
“This is a great moment, when a partnership between the public and private sectors work together to create positive change,” said Commissioner Walwyn. “I want to thank the Coalition for their confidence in creating this change, the confidence built from our local and overseas business supporters, the confidence in our police force and most importantly the confidence in ourselves as we can all create positive change.”
The police patrol vehicle is the first public display of support by the CSSKNSI. The group has further plans to contribute additional safety equipment for police officers, resources for communication services, computer resources and professional continuing education/training.
“Our businesses have come together to seek a strong partnership to improve safety and security in the Federation,” said Hughson. “The partnership is about working together and the shared responsibility goes beyond business and government; the responsibility lies with all of us.”
The CSSKNSI includes Christophe Harbour, Cockleshell Bay Development, Four Seasons Nevis, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, St. Kitts Marriott Resort, and Windsor University and was established to support to positive change in the areas of safety and security in the Federation.
During his address to the group, Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, prime minister for St. Christopher and Nevis, thanked the Coalition and recognized the entire business community for its support.
“Thank you to the Coalition, and the foreign investors it represents, for stepping up to a need that has been identified,” said PM Douglas. “I also want to acknowledge and show appreciation to all of our local businesses, the NGOs and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, who are also supportive of anti-crime initiatives. Working together we can all fight crime in the Federation.”
