Dr. Mervyn Riviere is a citizen of both Dominica and St. Lucia. He completed his MBBS (MD-equivalent) from the University of West Indies. His internship was in pediatric surgery, pediatric medicine, obstetrics and gynecology.
Dr. Riviere began his medical career as a district medical officer in Portsmouth, Dominica, where his responsibilities included control and management of Portsmouth Hospital and delivery of total health services to the population served by the hospital. He then became a surgery resident at the University Hospital of the West Indies as well as a demonstrator in anatomy. He moved on to the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where he passed the exam and became a Fellow of the Royal College (FRCS) of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr. Riviere became a consultant general surgeon at Victoria Hospital.
Moving to the United States, Dr. Riviere completed a residency in family medicine at the University of Miami Medical School. He then moved on to private practice in the Miami area. In the mid-90s, Dr. Riviere began attending the University of Miami Law School as a night student. He graduated with a JD with distinction in health law. He has been a member of the Florida bar since 1998. He focuses the practice of law with a focus on health law, immigration law, and international law.
