Dr. Harriet Myers holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Alabama. Her research was the first human study of the Opponent-Process Theory of motivation, exploring the affective processes of repetitive, habitual and addictive behaviors. Dr. Myers holds a B.S. and M.S. in nursing and was a faculty member of the University of Alabama, School of Nursing prior to pursuing the Ph.D. in psychology. In 1983, Dr. Myers was appointed a faculty member at the University of Alabama, School of Medicine – Tuscaloosa Branch. Her responsibilities included teaching medical students, family practice residents and psychology graduate students. In 1986, Dr. Myers entered the full-time private practice of clinical psychology with emphasis on mind-body medicine, the process of modifying unhealthy lifestyles and the treatment of individuals diagnosed with chronic physical illnesses. She also maintained a clinical faculty appointment with the University of Alabama, School of Medicine for over 15 years.

Following several years of sailing the US East Coast and Caribbean, Dr. Myers joined RUSM in January, 2006 as an Associate Professor in the Behavioral Sciences. She has been an administrator in the Office of Student Affairs and a Director of the Academic Success Program since April, 2006.
