Dr. Laura Welke completed her doctoral work in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Boston University School of Medicine. During her tenure Dr. Welke worked in the Laboratory for Cognitive Neurobiology and had the unique opportunity to be trained in primate neurosurgery and behavior under a few of the leading experts in temporal lobe anatomy. Dr. Welke's dissertation focused on the functional interactions of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the medial temporal lobe system.

Dr. Welke has also attended and presented work at several conferences including three Society for Neuroscience conventions and the International Brain Research Organization meeting in Prague in 2003. Along with her research, Dr. Welke taught in the Medical Gross Anatomy, Histology and Neuroscience courses at Boston University School of Medicine. She was also highly involved in the community lecturing to rehabilitation medical residents, undergraduate and eastern medicine students.

Following the completion of her Ph.D., Dr. Welke was employed in the Department of Anatomy at Ross University School of Medicine. Dr. Welke currently has an appointment and teaches in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at SUNY downstate medical school in Brooklyn, New York.
