School of Medicine: Quick Facts

  • Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM), one of the premier Caribbean medical schools, was founded in 1978.
  • Ross graduates are practicing in all 50 States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
  • RUSM has received formal approval in the critical states of New York, New Jersey, Florida and California.
  • In 2014, RUSM students USMLE Step 1 first-time pass rate was 97%. That figure is higher than the first-time pass rate achieved by US/Canadian students, which was 96%.
  • Students spend 16 months on the RUSM campus in Dominica and then return to the US for clinical clerkships.
  • The campus in Dominica has advanced educational technology. Classrooms are equipped with numerous flat panel plasma screens and students enjoy wireless internet capability anywhere on campus.
  • For the clinical portion of the program conducted in the US, the School of Medicine is affiliated with more than 70 teaching hospitals.
  • The School of Medicine starts three classes a year in September, January and May. And with no summer break, students finish the programs in less time than they would in the US.
  • There are more than 11,000 School of Medicine alumni.
